PatientsForce was awarded the Global Views ESG Corporate Sustainable Social Innovation Award for its patient support services.

"PatientsForce represents the force behind patient support, addressing the gap in health insurance coverage through market supply and demand. PatientsForce establishes a medical welfare program platform that benefits both patients and providers, focusing on individual patient-centered medication application management. This is not a platform for drug procurement but rather a comprehensive support system that helps cancer patients or those requiring specialty medications alleviate financial toxicity through pharmaceutical or third-party-supported drug benefit programs," stated Sean Chang, President of the PatientsForce Consultancy Strategy.

PatientsForce Receives Global Views ESG Corporate Sustainability Award

(Taipei, May 1, 2024) PatientsForce's patient support program, managed through its digital management platform, has been awarded the Small and Medium Enterprise Award in the Social Innovation category at the 20th Global Views ESG Corporate Sustainability Awards today, recognizing the company's impact and value in social innovation.

The PatientsForce patient support program primarily focuses on providing support solutions for self-paying patients for new drugs, reducing their financial burden, and offering patient-centered companion care. Through the digital management platform, case management is conducted, serving tens of thousands of cancer patients and those requiring specialty medications annually.

Cancer Drug Financial Burden an Urgent Social Issue

The financial burden of cancer drugs has become a significant social issue in Taiwan. According to a survey by the Taiwan Cancer Foundation, as many as 66% of cancer patients face out-of-pocket medical expenses exceeding 300,000 NT dollars, with 20% of patients paying over 1 million NT dollars. This financial pressure not only significantly affects the patients' quality of life but also directly impacts treatment outcomes, potentially preventing patients from receiving complete care.

In recent years, with the rapid advancement of medical technology, the speed of new drug or medical device approvals has increased. While new drugs offer new treatment options for physicians and patients, their high costs can be a significant financial burden without insurance coverage. Especially with the recent increase in the prices of newly launched drugs due to rising research and market costs, besides the collaboration of public and private insurance, the patient support program using the free market contract mechanism, provided by pharmaceutical foundations or third parties, is also a global market trend and an important issue for pharmaceutical company ESG.

PatientsForce Innovations Provide Affordable New Drug Support Management

Since 2015, PatientsForce has been involved in the development of patient support program systems. In 2021, it was awarded the National Medical Quality Award by the Taiwan Health Promotion Administration for its digital medical industry application. Through continuous investment in system development and optimization of corporate governance, PatientsForce currently provides new drug support services from nearly 60 international pharmaceutical companies, reducing patients' medication costs by over 5 billion NT dollars. Additionally, through care teams and intelligent medical systems, over 40,000 cancer patients have benefited.

"PatientsForce serves as a hub, providing practical resources when patients face challenging treatments. What patients need are actual resources, especially when dealing with the hardships of treatment," said Evie Wang, Operations Director of PatientsForce. "We hope to use innovative business models and digital tools to make the delivery of resources more efficient for providers, such as pharmaceutical companies and other stakeholders, to patients. When new drugs are covered by health insurance, our interim mission is completed, and we transition to the next phase of companion care services."

Innovative Services Recognized Internationally as Exploration Continues

The PatientsForce patient support management platform is not just a digital system but also includes PatientsForce's corporate responsibility practices in ESG. PatientsForce has not only joined international carbon neutral agreements but also continuously invested in research and development to optimize management processes, reduce carbon emissions through digital tools, and obtained ISO 9001, 27001, and 27701 certifications related to patient safety management systems. Thus, the first participation in the evaluation received recognition from the Taiwan Global Views magazine's ESG Corporate Sustainability Award evaluation.

"We do not want to see people impoverished due to illness but rather hope for medical equality that accommodates patients with different financial burdens, encouraging innovation to pursue better medical and health quality. These are the values of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals," said President Chang. "All resources come from patients' needs and market forces motivated to provide resources to patients, and businesses will be the most motivated force to practice SDGs principles."
